Architects ‘Gravedigger’ Live Music Video in Cologne
“Tom, what are you doing next weekend? We have our biggest ever European headline show and we need to film it!”
I think was what Dan text me. So, the following weekend I flew out to Cologne, just for the day. What actually just started as documenting for-the-hell-of-it quickly turned into lets-use-this-for-our-music-video. So, there you go.
I grabbed a load of stills alongside video footage – aside from the latest album’s tracks, I knew their set fairly well from the world tour.

When you’re shooting a band, knowledge of the setlist is one of the most important aspects of the night. For this shoot, there were a few song choices we agreed that the full team were to shoot, so I had backups incase anything went really wrong during Gravedigger. During these most of the cameras are focused solely on the band, getting the key shots for vocals & instrument sync for track. Aside, there are a few fan-favourite tracks, such as Follow The Water which I know will be great for capturing crowd b-reel & slow-motion. Then there are a few slower songs that I know probably won’t yield the type of footage I need for this deliverable – so I fire off a few stills then.
A HUGE thanks to the team that helped on this shoot last minute – Moritz Becker, Marius Milinski, Alexey Makhov & Adrian Fitipaldes. Shot on a mix of FS700, C100 & 5D’s. Stills are Canon 6D + Tokina 11-16/2.8, Canon 35/2 IS.
Always a pleasure to see the Architects lads again! Hopefully see them again in 2015…
